The new partnership of Xander and Corne Spies enjoyed an awesome start with a winner, a second and two third places from five runners at Turffontein on Saturday, 1 August - the new season off with a bang!

South Africa's brand new father-and-son training partnership of Corne and Xander Spies is set to send out their first runners at Turffontein on Saturday as a new chapter begins in a story that commenced over a half century ago, and encompasses three generations.

As one chapter closes and another begins, it is fitting to reflect on the remarkable career Corné Spies has built as a trainer in his own right.

The Racehorse Owners Association hosted a breakfast at The Acreage Restaurant at Randjesfontein on Saturday.This is a lovely morning out designed for existing or prospective racehorse owners to watch trackwork in beautiful surroundings, over a freshly brewed coffee or a relaxed breakfast.The breakfast was followed by stable visits, and Xander Spies, who is an ROA director, brought a few enthusiastic fans to our stable to meet the staff and some of our horses.This was well enjoyed by all, always a worthwhile initiative to bring people close to our wonderful thoroughbreds, and we look forward to training winners for them in future.
